The Cost Of Air Travel
The Ripple Effect
WesPac is working with airports across the country to help them make the switch to receiving fuel strictly by smart energy transport systems. Why? These underground systems are the safest, cleanest means to transport fuel. They do not create air pollution, unlike trucks, which are a significant source of mobile air pollution in Southern California. Cities such as Memphis and San Diego are following Los Angeles' lead to eventually eliminate the transportation of jet fuel by tanker trucks.
The cost of passenger air travel is directly related to the cost of jet fuel. Today, the airline industry reports that fuel costs, which includes the cost of transporting fuel, is the top cost of airlines, constituting close to 30 percent of operating expenses (Source: Air Transport Association). WesPac's S.E.T.S. is efficient and cost effective. In addition, it provides increased market competition for supplying jet fuel, which will help airlines keep fuel costs down. Improving the efficiency and cost of jet fuel transportation will ultimately help to keep the cost of passenger air travel down.
Just as motorists pay different prices for gasoline in different parts of the country, airlines pay different prices regionally for jet fuel. The price of jet fuel in Los Angeles is frequently used as a reference price for jet fuel throughout the western United States and beyond. A dedicated system of transporting fuel to help stabilize the cost of jet fuel in Los Angeles will have a positive ripple affect on jet fuel prices across the western U.S..
